Remove the driver:
1. START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK
2. Click Adapters tab
3. Highlight the 3Com Fast EtherLink XL and click Remove
4. Click Protocol tab, remove all protocols
5. Restart NT
Note: A service failing to start error may occur on start up. This is normal, because the drivers are not
loaded for the NIC
For the Compaq Deskpro 5120 containing an on-board adapter follow these steps before restarting:
1. Click START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL
2. Double-click Devices icon
3. Highlight the on-board adapter and click Startup button
4. Change setting from Automatic to Disabled
5. Close Devices icon
6. Open Network icon
7. Click on Adapter tab
8. Remove on-board adapter
9. Click on Protocol tab
10. Remove all protocols
11. Restart NT

Install the driver:
1. START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK
2. Click Adapters tab
3. Click Add, and then click Have Disk
4. Path out to EtherDisk 2 (type a:\) and click OK
5. Click Protocol tab and add desired protocols
6. Click OK to close Network icon
7. When prompted for NT files, path out to i386 directory on NT CD
a. Note: if CD ROM drive letter is E, type E:\i386
8. Restart NT when prompted
To bypass the installation of the 3Com Windows diagnostic software into Windows NT 4.0:
1. Click START>PROGRAMS>WINDOWS NT EXPLORER
2. Insert EtherDisk Disk2 into the floppy drive
3. Click on the floppy drive, in Explorer
4. Double-click on the oemsetup.inf file
5. Change the option to NO, under the [IntstallOptions] section:
Note: The change will look like this:
[IntstallOptions]
Install_dRMON = "YES"
Install_3NIC_Diag = "NO"
Install_PACE = "YES"
Install_Shortcuts = "YES"
6. Click FILE>EXIT>YES, this will exit and save the changes made
7. Install the NIC using the steps in the first fix above
