Diagnostic shows "EXTERNAL-DIX" as transceiver
Problem: The transceiver type shows up as EXTERNAL-DIX and cannot be changed by 3C5X9CFG.EXE.
Solution #1: Diagnostics won't let the user change the transceiver type of the EXTERNAL-DIX setting. Save the configuration to the 3C5X9.SET file. Edit the file and change the transceiver type to "on-board TP". The syntax must include upper and lower case. Reload diagnostics and load the modified 3C5X9.SET file. It now reads the transceiver type as TP (RJ45). Once saved to the adapter, reboot and load the network.
Solution #2: With a 3C509B TPO card, save the configuration to a .SET file to save the parameter BOOT PROM Disabled. BOOT PROM is not a valid setting on this adapter and returns an error when saved. Remove the boot prom line (see below):
