Installing DEC Pathworks v5 on EtherLink III

Problem: Attempting to install via the Decnet protocol from a VAX based server using DEC's SETUP installation diskette with the program SETUP.EXE, the bootstrap connection to the server fails with the text "fail to load scheduler".

Solution: On a copy of DEC's diskette SETUP, edit the file A:\TOOLS\DETSTN.TPL. Disregard the hidden directory. Locate the the "SCH" command and add "/n" at the end. The line should read "%2:\decnet\sch /n". Save the file.

Note: Some Network cards need to have this switch. Using the /n should not be a problem with any other installation. DEC has added it in v5.1.

Problem: The card is not supported in the list.

Solution: Use adapter "other" and the diskette supplied with the card. When requested, fill in the following information:
* Adapter Name: 3Com EtherLink III
* NDIS Driver Path: A:\NDIS\DOS
* NDIS Driver File: ELNK3.DOS
* NDIS Driver Name: ELNK3
