3C509B running slow in WFW

Problem: 3C509B card brought up WFW faster on a 386 machine compared to a 486 machine: 45 seconds to bring up WFW on the 386 machine, 2 minutes and 45 seconds to bring WFW up on the 486 machine. When the 486 machine finally got on the network, it ran slow. Checked the driver and the configuration of the card setup on the 486 machine. All were updated and configured properly.

Solution: Virtual RAM drive is the cause of the slow performance. Rem out the RAM drive statement in the 486's CONFIG.SYS and everything runs quickly. Windows loads with a 39 second initial time.
