IPXSPX versus ODI
Problem: 3C509 works fine with the IPX.COM file, but on the same file the 3C509B is slow without the ODI driver.
Solution: When the IPX runs on the 3C509B, a bottleneck occurs. No bottleneck occurs when loading the (3C5X9.COM) ODI driver. If the IPX is generated with a newer shell (OSOBJ Ver. 3.10) from DOSUP9, the 3C509B doesn't experience the problem. IPX.COM is phasing out and should not be recommended as a "FIX." Use the latest drivers that ship on EtherDisk/TokenDisk or FDDIDISK and use ODI in place of IPX. Get IPX.OBJ dated 11-21-91 from either DOSUP9.EXE or NET33X.EXE. Both of these files have the IPX.OBJ v3.10. Copy IPX.OBJ to the WSGEN diskette, overwriting the current one. Run WSGEN.EXE and hit the "insert" key. When prompted, insert the v4.1 EtherDisk and hit <enter>. The new IPX.COM will now be genned. Type "IPX I" and verify that it says "IPX/SPX v3.10" and displays the info for the EtherLink III.
