3C589 - Compaq Speedpaq modem in Compaq LTE

Problem: Trying to install the 3C589 in a Compaq LTE Elite 4/75CX Model 510 notebook with Compaq's Speedpaq 144p PCMCIA modem, diagnostics load with Card Services loaded but the Ethernet Core loopback fails. Without Card Services loaded, 3C589CFG.EXE yields "Adapter Not Found".

Solution: Remove the modem. To recognize the 3C589 with the modem installed, install the card in slot 1 on the bottom. The modem can then go in slot 2. With this configuration, the 3C589 passes diagnostics with or without Card Services present.
