3C589 - Installing EtherLink III PCMCIA with LANtastic/AI 5.0

To install Artisoft's LANtastic/AI version 5.0 as a DOS NDIS workstation, DOS must be installed on the target Workstation's C: drive, or you must have a bootable DOS floppy. Follow these steps:

1. Insert the LANtastic/AI Disk #1 in Drive A.

2. Type Install/DOS and press [Enter] at the prompt for a DOS client installation.

3. Enter your machine name (up to 15 characters) when prompted and press [Enter].
The install program appears with a list of options for your workstation.

4. Select the default configuration, which is the 3Com 3C503 Etherlink II network adapter.

5. Scroll down, highlight the option Perform Installation, and press [Enter].

6. Remove Disk #1.

7. Insert Disk #2 in drive A when prompted and press [Enter].

Once the program has finished copying files, a message appears saying that the installation is complete.

8. Exit to DOS.

9. Copy all the files from the root directory of the NDIS Support for LANtastic diskette to the C:\LANTASTI subdirectory that was created by the LANtastic installation in previous step.

10. Copy the ELPC3.DOS NDIS Driver from the EtherDisk diskette's \NDIS\DOS subdirectory to the C:\LANTASTI subdirectory.

11. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file to include the folowing two lines anywhere in the file:

DEVICE=C:\LANTASTI\PROTMAN.DOS /I: C:\LANTASTI
DEVICE=C:\LANTASTI\ELPC3.DOS

12. Save the file and exit.

13. In the \LANTASTI subdirectory on the C: drive, edit the STARTNET.BAT file and modify the adapter driver. Change the lines:

A3C503MM to: AI-NDIS BIND_TO=ELINKPC3
AILANBIO to: AILANBIO
REDIR WS_NAME LOGINS=2 to: REDIR WS_NAME LOGINS=2

14. Save the file and exit.

15. In the LANTASTI subdirectory, edit the PROTOCOL.INI file to include a section for the Etherlink/PCMCIA after the lines:

[PROTMAN]
DRIVERNAME = PROTMAN$
DYNAMIC = YES

Add the two lines:

[ELINKPC3]
DRIVERNAME=ELPC3$

16. Save the file and exit.

17. Remove the diskette and reboot the computer.

18. From the C:\LANTASTI directory, type STARTNET and press [Enter]. The Workstation/Server is now ready for communication to other LANtastic Workstations/Servers.
