Finding NetWare drivers on EtherDisk

This document explains where NetWare drivers are located on EtherDisk diskettes for 3Com adapters.

EtherDisks for the 3C503, 3C505, 3C507, 3C509, 3C523, and 3C527 adapters all have a \NETWARE directory. Within this directory reside three subdirectories, called \NETWARE\286, \NETWARE\386, and \NETWARE ODI if it is current. If a \NETWARE\ODI is not present, you can download the latest .ZIP file from Ask3Com or CardBoard.

Contents of \NETWARE\286 Directory

The \NETWARE\286 directory contains drivers for NetWare286 servers and NetWare286 and NetWare386 workstations. The workstation driver can be identified by a preceding "S" in front of the 3C adapter part number; for example "S3C503.LAN" and "S3C503.OBJ." A NetWare286 ".LAN" driver is the description file that is seen on the screen when viewing the different types of configurations through WSGEN or SHGEN, while the .OBJ file is the object file used to compile the the IPX driver. (SHGEN and WSGEN are the workstation generation utilities provided by NetWare to create IPX drivers.)

Contents of \NETWARE\386 Directory

The \NETWARE\386 directory contains NetWare386 server drivers. These drivers also look like a .LAN file; for example "3C503.LAN." The .LAN files are loaded by the LOAD command provided with NetWare386.

Note: The NetWare386 IPX-style workstation drivers are the same drivers as the NetWare286 IPX-style drivers, so use the the drivers located in the \NETWARE\286 directory when generating an IPX driver.

Contents of \NETWARE\ODI Directory

The \NETWARE\ODI directory contains the ODI drivers. DOS drivers are .COM files that can be loaded at the command prompt. OS\2 drivers are .SYS files that is sometimes referred to as the OS\2 Requester. If an OS\2 Requester driver is available, it will be located here.
