3C589 - Installing The 3C589 Adapter In Windows For Workgroups with MicroSoft Networking Support
The following instructions are for installing Windows For Workgroups (WFW) with MicroSoft networking support only.. If you are using another network in addition WFW (such as Novell, Banyan Vines) you will need to check the Microsoft documentation for installing WFW with those networks.
Materials needed:
1. Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 installation diskettes (or CD-Rom)
2. 3Com EtherDisk for the EtherLink III PCMCIA network adapter

Installation
These instructions assume you already have WFW installed and are just selecting the driver to use.
Note: Do not use the driver for the EtherLink III that is included in WFW.
Step 1:
1. Start Windows .
2. Open the Network program group.
3. Start the Network Setup program.
Step 2:
4. Click on the Networks button.
5. Click the radio button next to Install Microsoft Windows Network.
6. Click the radio button next to No additional networks.
7. Click OK.
NOTE: At this point you should click the Sharing button to make your files and/or printers available to the network.
Step 3:
8. Click the Drivers button in the Network Setup Box.
Note: The Network Driver box should be empty. If isn't, highlight any driver and click the Remove button.
9. Click the Add Adapter button.
10. Highlight Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter, and click OK.
11. Insert the 3Com EtherDisk and click OK.
12. Click OK in the Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter dialog box.
Note: You should now see the 3Com 3c589 EtherLink III PCMCIA Adapter option in the Network Drivers box.
13. Click OK in the Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter dialog box.
14. Close button the Network Drivers dialog box.
15. Click OK in the Network Setup dialog box.
Note: If the Windows Setup dialog box appears, click the "Yes to All" button.
16. Insert the appropriate diskette (or CD-Rom) when you see the request to insert Microsoft Disks 7 and 8, and click OK.
17. Insert the 3Com Etherdisk when you see the request for the file "ELPC3.DOS" and replace "A:\" with "A:\NDIS\DOS. Click OK.
18. Click OK in the Windows Setup dialog box.
19. Click the Restart Computer button.
