3C589 - Configuring Trumpet WinSock -Example Configuration

Problem: How do I configure Trumpet Winsock to run on the 3c589, 3c589b or 3c589c.

Answer: This can be done by loading the packet driver for the 3c589 cards. Download the Trumpet software and follow the installation instructions also download the 3COM packet driver 589PKT.EXE from the SHIPPING ADAPTER AREA of 3COM WEB, BBS or FTP sites.

1. Expand the 589PKT.EXE file into the Trumpet directory (eg. for this example c:\trumpet)

2. Add the following lines to the AUTOEXEC.BAT before the WIN command.

C:\TRUMPET\3C589PD.COM
C:\TRUMPET\WINPKT.COM 0X60

3. Run Windows.

4. Open the Trumpet Group and double click on TCPMAN.EXE. Click on FILE, SETUP, then enter the Packet Vector 60 as below. Complete the IP Address, NetMask and other details as neccessary depending on your network. Note the Packet Vector must match what is set on the WINPKT.COM for Trumpet to work correctly.

Note. The Packet driver does not require Card and Socket Services. However, for it to work the Interrupt and IO address of the card must be configured using the Install/Diag program provided with the 3c589. The PCMCIA sockets in the Host Laptop must be 100% Intel Compatible for the Packet Driver to load (refer to Laptop Manufacturer)
