3C589 - HSM Error with 3C589C and Compaq Contura CX

Problem: HSM error code appeared when the 3C589.COM multiple link interface driver (MLID) tried to load in Point Enabler mode. After bypassing the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT, the Group 1 diagnostics passed at IRQ 10 and I/O 300. Diagnostics reported the card as a 3C589C network interface card, but MLID still fails and produces the HSM error.

Solution: Place the network interface card in the bottom slot of the machine to eliminate the problem: both diagnostics and MLID will perform properly.
