3C589 - Client32 for DOS\Windows 3x - ODI-32 - Loading Multiple Frame Types

Note: If you are using Windows 95, please donot follow this document. Try inserting the adapter into the other socket on the laptop.

Problem: When loading multiple frame types with the Client32 for DOS\Windows the second frame type brings up a windows asking:

Do you want to load another frame type for a previously loaded board?

Solution: The solutions depend upon whether card services are being loaded on the machine.

For Machines using Card Services:

The load line for the ODI-32 driver (3C589.LAN) requires a SLOT parameter for each load line along with the frame type. For example:

SET NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISH
C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\NIOS.EXE
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\LSLC32.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CMSM.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\ETHERTSM.NLM
c:\novell\client32\3c589mgr.exe /irq=a
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\3C589.LAN slot=2 FRAME=ETHERNET_802.2
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\3C589.LAN slot=2 FRAME=ETHERNET_II
load c:\novell\client32\3c589.lan slot=2 frame=ethernet_802.3
load c:\novell\client32\3c589.lan slot=2 frame=ethernet_snap
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\TCPIP.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\IPX.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CLIENT32.NLM

NOTE:
1) If you are unsure of which slot the adapter is in or if the adapter is in a different slot other than the one specified on the driver load line, the driver will tell you when it loads.
2) You can specify an IRQ when using card services.

For Machines NOT using Card Services:

The load line for the ODI-32 driver (3C589.LAN) requires INT, PORT, and ENABLER parameters for each load line along with the frame type. For example:

SET NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISH
C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\NIOS.EXE
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\LSLC32.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CMSM.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\ETHERTSM.NLM
c:\novell\client32\3c589mgr.exe /irq=a
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\3C589.LAN PORT=360 INT=a FRAME=ETHERNET_802.2 ENABLER
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\3C589.LAN PORT=360 INT=a FRAME=ETHERNET_II ENABLER
load c:\novell\client32\3c589.lan port=360 int=a frame=ethernet_802.3 enabler
load c:\novell\client32\3c589.lan port=360 int=a frame=ethernet_snap enabler
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\TCPIP.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\IPX.NLM
LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CLIENT32.NLM

NOTE:
1) The 3C589MGR.EXE file does not ship with the Client32 installation diskettes.
2) When setting the configuration parameters in enabler mode, the Interrupt will override the EEPROM settings. However, the PORT must match the IO Base Address Settings of the adapter, otherwise, the board will not be found.
