3C509B - RJ 45

Problem: RJ 45 port doesn't work on the 3C509.

Solution: Either the user has a combo card programmed incorrectly as a BNC adapter, or a TPO installed in NT with Micrsoft's driver set to AUI by mistake.

Run the configuration program on the adapter and verify the transceiver type setting. To use the TP transceiver, the "Transceiver Type" option must be set to TP or AUTO-SELECT. If it is set to AUI as the only option, the card has been programmed incorrectly. Follow these steps:

1. DOS boot the machine and bypass the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files
2. Run 3C5X9CFG.EXE on the root of the EtherDisk v4.1or v4.2
3. Under Installation, select "Configure Adapter"
4. If the transceiver type is AUI, highlight that option and hit Enter to change the setting
5. If AUI is the only choice, select "File Options..." at the bottom of the Configuration menu
6. Select "Save..." and name the file 3C5X9.SET to save the configuration to a text file
7. Exit to DOS and edit 3C5X9.SET
8. Set the transceiver line to "@Transceiver type: on-board TP"
9. Save this change back to 3C5X9.SET
10. Run 3C5X9CFG.EXE again and go under Installation, Configure Adapter
11. Select "File Options..." and then "Load..."
12. For the filename, enter "3C5X9.SET". The edited configuration will now be loaded.
13. Select "Ok" and the configuration will be saved to the adapter
14. Test the adapter

If this procedure does not set the transceiver type to TP, swap the adapter through the normal RMA process.
