Edit the registry to change the value data of COMSMDEXE. Make a backup of your registry before the edit.

HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current_Version\Run

Modify " COMSMDEXE -ON " under value data to " comsmd.exe -off"

Restart the machine for the changes to take effect.

If you want to access the 3Com windows diagnostics program after making the above change,
click START>RUN and type 3NICDIAG.EXE.
