3C90x - Win95 - NT - Can't remove DRMON when registry locked "ON"

QUESTION:

Why doesn't the dRMON SmartAgent remove itself when I remove the 3C90x driver and reboot the computer? I get the message, "3Com dRMON SmartAgent PC Software can't be removed. Please Contact your system administrator for further instruction"

ANSWER:

The dRMON SmartAgent is locked in the registry. Unlock the feature to remove the software by following the procedure below.

Uninstalling the dRMON SmartAgent in Windows NT v3.51 or Windows NT v4.0

Please follow the instructions exactly as editing your Registry incorrectly may damage your system.

1. Run and modify the Registry by going through the following:
In Win NT 4.0 - Click on START button, Click on RUN, type REGEDT32
In Win NT 3.51 - Go to FILE, and select RUN, type REGEDT32
1a. Double click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
1b. Double click on Software
1c. Double click on 3Com
1d. Double click on dRMON Smart Agent
1e. Double click on Current Version

2. Highlight "Locked:REG_SZ:ON" in the window to the right.
2a From the EDIT menu choose "String"
2b. Change the value from ON to OFF
2c. Click OK

3. From the REGISTRY menu choose EXIT

4. In Win NT 4.0 - Go to the Network dialog box, select the "Services" Tab and select "3Com dRMON SmartAgent PC Software"
In Win NT 3.51 - In Network, under, "Installed Network Software", highlight "3Com dRMON SmartAgent PC Software"

5. Click REMOVE.
