Why does the 3Com GUI Diagnostics say 3C900-COMBO is not connected to a network?

Question: After double-clicking on the 3Com tray icon (in Window 95/NT) clicking on Properties tab, highlighting media type and selecting AUI interface, do I get this message:

"The NIC is not currently connected to a network. Please check the media type connections of the client and server and change if necessary."

What happens if I ignore the message?

Answer: This is an erroneous message. The NIC will function correctly if the message is ignored.
