3C589D - TOSHIBA LAPTOPS - Windows 95 and Windows 95B - 3Com card detected only as a Modem.

PROBLEM:
-3C589D showing up under MODEM in DEVICE MANAGER.
-Removed it from the DEVICE MANAGER.
-Found S3CO9CA6.INF in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. Renamed it to S3CO9CA6.OLD.

***NOTE- The file should be searched for as S3C*.INF. Other files with similar names will
also present this problem.

-Rebooted and it still detects as a MODEM.
-Cleaned it out in DEVICE MANAGER. Removed the PCIC OR COMPATIBLE PCMCIA
SOCKET. Rebooted and allowed it to redetect.
-Inserted the 3C589D and it still detects as a MODEM.

SOLUTION:
-Change to the C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory and list all files.
-Checked the file %SSS3CO9CA6.INF and it contained references to 3C589D as a MODEM.

***NOTE- Check for all related files in his sub-directory for references to 3COM. Rename them all to *.OLD.

-Rename the file to %SSS3CO9CA6.OLD.
-Rebooted and the 3C589D detected normally. Installed fine.
