3C90x - HP Vectra VA 6200 - Win95 OSR2 - Windows Protection Error

PROBLEM: HP Vectra VA 6200 system with Windows 95 (OSR2) with the 3C90X adapter installed, the following error occurs upon boot up:

"Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer."

SOLUTION:

The HP BIOS version GZ.07.05, Phoenix v4.05.N, contains a setting called MEMORY HOLE set this parameter to 15-16 MB. Press F2 upon boot up to enter the BIOS setup for the HP Vectra VA. Once in the BIOS setup, go under CONFIGURATION-->MEMORY AND CACHE and then select the MEMORY HOLE parameter and toggle it to 15-16MB. When this setting is set to DISABLED the windows protection errors may occur, if set to 15-16 MB the Vectra boots fine.

NOTE: HP's on-line help states: "Sets a 1 MB memory hole between 15M & 16M RAM regions".

This configuration has resolved the same problem on an HP Vectra VL.
