BaudPassThru

Syntax:

SETDefault -sys BaudPassThru = <value in bits/sec>
SHow -sys BaudPassThru

Default

No-disk Entry Default Value:

10000000

Description:

The BaudPassThru parameter sets a maximum thresholdon the underlying bandwidth configured on a port. When this threshold is exceeded, packet queueing and flow control monitoring are suspended on WAN ports. This command optimizes performance for very high speed bandwidth pipes by effectively bypassing the prioritization/bandwidth reservation queueing and flow control bandwidth grooming mechanisms normally employed for WAN ports.

By making the bandwidth pipe fast enough, the pipe can keep up with the packet load offered to it, queueing and flow control metering are not required, and their overhead can be eliminated. For T3 pipes, bypassing queueing and flow control metering may be a reasonable option in many cases.

Example:

SETDefault -sys BaudPassThru = 40000000

In this example, if the aggregate bandwidth on any WAN port exceeds 40,000,000 bits/sec (for example, a T3 pipe), then no queueing or flow control metering is performed on this port, regardless of the queue parameter settings. If a port has an aggregate bandwidth smaller than this value, then the configured queueing policies are applied with flow control metering.
