Once you have selected traffic for loading, Traffix Manager will pull back that data and process it. To display traffic in the Map, you must select the devices or groups for which you want to see traffic and then use the To/From and Between buttons to display conversations for those objects. You can display traffic for a single device, for multiple devices and for groups. The To/From and Between buttons are toggle buttons, so they will toggle the display of conversations on or off.
Figure 6-9 The To/From and Between Buttons
Use To/From to display conversations going to or from the selected object(s) to any other object on the network.
Figure 6-10 Using To/From to Display Traffic for a Device
For example, in Figure 6-10, if you select Device 1 in the Map and click To/From, you see all conversations going from or to Device 1 and other devices on the network. No traffic is going between Device 1 and Device 4.
Figure 6-11 Using To/From to Display Traffic for all Devices in a Group
In Figure 6-11, if you select Group A in the Map, all the devices in that group are selected. When you click To/From, you see all conversations going from or to the devices in Group A and other devices on the network.
Figure 6-12 Using To/From to Display Traffic for a Group
In Figure 6-12, the devices have been hidden and only the groups are shown in the Map. (The hiding of devices or groups in the Map is discussed in Filtering On Screen Display on page 6-16.) If you select Group A in the Map and click To/From, you see the conversations going from or to Group A and other groups on the network.
Between will display conversations between selected objects only.
Figure 6-13 Using Between to Display Traffic Between Selected Devices
For example, in Figure 6-13, if you select Device 1 in Group A and Device 3 in Group B and then click Between, you see all conversations going between Devices 1 and 3 only. No traffic going to or from other devices on the network is displayed.
Figure 6-14 Using Between to Display Traffic Between Devices in a Group
In Figure 6-14, if you select Group A, this means that all the devices in that group are selected. When you click Between, you see only conversations going between devices in the selected group, i.e. between Devices 1 and 2. No traffic is shown outside Group A.
Figure 6-15 Using Between to Display Traffic Between Groups
In Figure 6-15 the devices have been hidden and only the groups are shown in the Map (refer to Filtering On Screen Display later in this Chapter). If you selected Group A only and clicked Between, no conversations would be displayed.
Only when two groups are selected, Groups A and B, and you click Between, would you see the traffic flowing between the two groups.
The To/From and Between toggle buttons can be used to filter the traffic displayed on screen. With traffic displayed in the Map, you can selectively toggle on or off the display of traffic for any device or group, leaving the remaining traffic unaffected.
Figure 6-16 Unfiltered Traffic
For example, Figure 6-16 above shows traffic displayed for a number of devices in different groups.
Device 5 in Group C is broadcasting to all devices on the network. To filter out the traffic from this device, you would select it and then click To/From, as shown in Figure 6-17.
Figure 6-17 After Filtering Out Traffic from a Device
Clicking To/From when there is traffic already displayed for a device, will toggle off traffic going from or to this device. As you can see from Figure 6-17, the traffic flowing between other devices is unaffected.
If you then select Device 1 and Device 4, and click Between, you can filter out the traffic flowing between these two devices only.
Figure 6-18 Filtered Traffic
As you can see in Figure 6-18, traffic flowing between Devices 1 and 4 is toggled off. Traffic between the other devices remains unaffected.
The following table describes the steps for displaying traffic for a single selected object.
In the case of single groups, this table only applies when devices have been hidden in the Map display. (The hiding of devices or groups in the Map is discussed in Filtering On Screen Display on page 6-16.)
