In order to support multifunction cardbus adapters under Windows 95 OSR 2 the files CBSS.VXD, PCCARD.VXD and PCI.VXD must be compatible. While the above drivers are necessary for proper installation of the 3CXFEM656C and 3CCFEM656B adapters into Windows 95 OSR2, the files are owned and controlled by Microsoft. 3Com neither writes nor can distribute the drivers, but offers this site to easily find the proper files. Before applying Microsoft update utility (pccardupd.exe) to update your Microsoft files, 3Com recommends that you make backups of your CBSS.VXD, PCI.VXD, and PCCARD.VXD by copying the files to CBSS.OLD, PCI.OLD, and PCCARD.OLD respectively. These files are normally located in the C:\Windows\System directory. Go to Microsoft site to obtain file update utility If you experience difficulty after executing the Microsoft update utility and rebooting, copy your CBSS.OLD, PCI.OLD, and PCCARD.OLD back to CBSS.VXD, PCI.VXD, and PCCARD.VXD respectively and then reboot. Then, contact your machine vendor to assist you in properly setting you machine up for multifunction cardbus adapters under Windows 95 OSR 2. Alternatively, customers may choose to upgrade to Windows 98 or Windows 2000 since they come shipped with files that support multifunction cardbus adapters. Customers are strongly encouraged to contact their machine vendor to find out if Windows 98 or Windows 2000 is supported on their machine before upgrading. Please check our KnowledgeBase for more information on specific issues.
